Wellness is the care of mind, body, and spirit. But when we hear about wellness, it is so often in relation to productivity (we care for ourselves so we can contribute to the economy), reproduction (we care for ourselves so we can attract a mate), or avoidance (we care for ourselves so we can detach from the ordeal of consciousness). Wellness has a definition and a meaning. One is freedom. The other is tyranny. Sounds is rooted in a deeper definition of wellness. We see wellness as the process of presence. It is the sweet reunion of self with time and place, nature and companions. Presence, and presence alone, is our aim. Between the individual and presence is a great distance, a landscape dotted with false peaks and diversions. Consider our designs as waypoints situated throughout this expanse, a constellation of subtle landmarks that orient the pilgrim toward their destination. If you’re on your way, go slow. Pause to inhale the scent of yuzu. Hear the soft murmur of boiling water bound for a cup of herbal tea. Observe the brutalist silhouette of a simple dish. Feel tender cotton wick saltwater from sun-kissed skin. Take it at your own pace. For the longer the journey, the sweeter the reunion.
